Welcome!
I’m Jennifer Paperman, an Amsterdam-based therapist offering one-on-one sessions to adults in the Netherlands. I offer a supportive setting to explore challenges, understand patterns, gain clarity and self-understanding, and consider possibilities for growth and change.
Whether you’re navigating a life transition, going through a difficult period, or looking for greater fulfillment, therapy can help you better understand what’s getting in the way and find a path forward that aligns with your values and intentions.
If you’re considering therapy, I invite you to book a free 20-minute consultation to see whether we might be a good fit.

About me
My journey to becoming a therapist was not a straight line, and my varied background informs the perspective I bring to therapy.
I began my career in corporate communications in San Francisco before eventually returning to psychology to pursue a line of work I found to be more meaningful. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University and later completed a Master of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in Counseling at Webster University in Leiden. My graduate training included extensive supervised clinical work with adults from a range of backgrounds and life circumstances. I continue to pursue post-graduate training, staying curious, open to learning, and committed to developing my skills as a therapist.
I have also lived in several countries and built a life outside my home country, the United States. That experience has given me an appreciation for what it means to adapt, start over, and find your footing when the life you’re living doesn’t look quite like the one you expected.
My approach
My sessions are warm, engaged, and straightforward, but above all, personalized and collaborative. While I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, I believe the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important foundations of effective therapy.
At the core of my practice is creating an environment where you can speak openly, look honestly at what is and isn’t working, and develop a deeper understanding of yourself, without judgment and with genuine support. I tailor therapy to you, drawing on different evidence-based modalities depending on who you are, what you’re experiencing, and what you hope to gain from therapy. These modalities include:
-
CBT explores the connections between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and how these patterns can influence the way we experience and respond to situations. It can help you recognise patterns that may be keeping you stuck, question unhelpful ways of thinking, and develop new ways of responding to life’s challenges.
-
ACT focuses on developing psychological flexibility: learning to make room for difficult thoughts and feelings rather than struggling against them, while choosing actions that align with your values. It can help you relate to your inner experiences differently, become less caught up in unhelpful thought patterns, and move toward what matters to you.
-
DBT focuses on developing skills to manage intense emotions, cope with distress, and navigate relationships more effectively. It combines acceptance with the possibility of change, helping you respond to difficult situations with greater awareness, balance, and flexibility rather than reacting automatically.
-
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative approach that helps you explore your feelings about change, including any uncertainty or mixed feelings you may have. Rather than telling you what to do, it helps you clarify what matters to you, identify your own reasons for change, and decide what feels right for you.
-
Psychodynamic approaches explore how past experiences, relationships, and patterns of relating can shape the way you experience yourself and others in the present. By developing a deeper understanding of these patterns and the feelings behind them, you can gain insight into recurring difficulties and explore new ways of relating to yourself and others.
-
Existential approaches explore questions of meaning, identity, freedom, responsibility, and what it means to live a fulfilling life. They also address the realities and limitations of being human, including uncertainty, loss, mortality, and the limits of our control. Therapy can offer an opportunity to reflect on these questions, come to terms with what cannot be changed, and consider how you want to live in light of what matters most to you.
